Dr Manju Misra is currently associated with graduate school of pharmacy, Gujarat technical university as
associate professor. She completed her B pharm and M pharma from Nagpur University with specialization in
pharmaceutics. She did her PhD from BIT, Mesra, Ranchi working on thermal analysis and its application on drug
excipient compatibility screening. She has total 12 years’ of experience post PhD, out of which 2 years were in
various Research (Formulation development) and development unit of pharmaceutical industries like Macleods
Pharmaceuticals Mumbai, Piramal Pharmaceutical development services Pvt Ltd., Ahmedabad, Cadila
pharmaceutical’s Pvt Ltd, Dholka, Ahmedabad, wherein she worked in generic formulation development for
regulated market. Post her industrial stint, she joined NIPER Ahmedabad, an institute of national importance in
the area of Pharmaceutical research, under the aegis of ministry of chemical and fertilizer, Government of India,
as assistant professor in the department of Pharmaceutics, where she worked for 10 years. At NIPER, she was
instrumental in setting up entire Pharmaceutics department and played key role in several academic and
administrative responsibilities including, as subject co-ordinator for Pharmaceutics, NIPER academic course
coordinator, Placement coordinator, co-ordinator for Industry academia linkage, chairman NIPER JEE-2018 and
several others, apart from teaching and mentoring MS and PhD students.
She has more than 50 national and international publications in peer reviewed international journals to her credit,
more than 25 poster publications including four international oral presentations and several invited talks to her
credit. She is recipient of prestigious DST INSPIRE faculty award (2012), DBT- Rapid Grant award for young
investigator (2012), DST SERB EMR grant (2018), DOP-PPDS scheme award (2016), besides travel grants from
DST and DBT (2017), total worth more than 80 lakhs. She was part of INSPIRE teachers’ team which was invited
to attend one-week In-residence program at Rashtrapati Bhavan, during the tenure of Hon. President Shri Pranab
Mukherjee, in 2016. She has so far mentored more than 60 master’s students for their MS dissertation work and
3 PhD Students as advisor and 2 as Co-advisor respectively. PhD and MS students under her mentorship have
received several prestigious awards like Newton Bhabha PhD exchange award, Khorana fellowship, Nestle
powder challenge, ICMR SRF, etc. She primarily works in the area of lipid nanocolloidal carriers in enhancing
delivery of drugs across Blood brain barrier, ocular barriers, solubility enhancement of drugs using nano
crystallization approach, electro spraying and electrospinning based drug delivery system, reverse engineering
studies for aiding 505B(2) filings, and application of thermal methods in drug development. She has keen interest
in repurposing indigenous cow ghee as pharmaceutical excipient and its potential in achieving targeted drug
delivery, an area in which she has been working since last 8 years.
